BOROUGH PLANTATIONS
ADEQUATE,PRECAUTIONS
Adequate precautions have been taken hy the Gisborne Borough Council for tho checking of fire outbreaks in the council's reserves and plantations, in tho opinion of the engineer. Mr. li. ItThomas.
This opinion was conveyed to the council last night in the report of the reserves committee, which. ,was asked by the council at its previous meeting; to consider the matter, as a- result oi" a letter received from a resident. The committee's report stated:— "The engineer reported that adequate precaution had been taken for the checking of lire, outbreaks in the council's reserves.
"On Kaiti Hill a number of 40-gallon drums filled with water and a. quantity of sacks are kept at the. top of tho hill for this purpose, in addition to which there is a lire break running through the property. "Awapuni." road plantation is divided hy a. number of fire breaks, and fire hydrants are installed at intervals on the water main running along Awapuni road to the abattoirs. Awapuni waterworks reserve is amply protected by being divided by the lagoon." The report was adopted.
