FORTNIGHTLY MEETING REPORT ON ROAD WORK The Gisborno Borough Council mot last night. There were present: The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., Crs. 11. 11. Do Costa, N. H. Bull,.!. H. Hall, 1). S. Thompson, J. Webb, P. W. Bushnell, 11. Holmes, H. E. Maude, and G. Bradley Smil li. Mr.'.lames -Miller wrote requesting further improvements to Kingnley road.—The matter was roforred to the inspection committee. Or. lie Costa referred to the slate of the lower end of Stout street, which, he said, was in a bad condition.—The matter was referred to the inspection committee.

WORKS COMMITTET
In its report, the works committee '"•Contemplated works—A list oj: .contemplated works for the fortnight was submitted bv the engineer, the principal works being: Work in connection with Kaili septic tank outfall, and the erection of shelter .shed on Ruteno road croquet, lawns. ~. ,«. "Hospital Hill roacb-The cutting oil of corners and strengthening sections m the road has been completed, it is
necessary to hire the grader from the Cook County Council for formation work; also the council's 8-ton roller for finishing the formation before sealing. The hire of this machine is necessary owing to this council not having a roller suitable for work on steep grades. "Improvements, Score road.—Residents of Score road requested the council to effect improvements by filling in the drain on either side of the road, leaving a slope which could be easily cut with a lawn mower. The committee recommends that favourable consideration be given to the request, provided the residents install new regulation culverts, or as an alternative pave the entrances to their premises with flat stones, the cost to be borne by the residents.
"■Subdivision of land.—An. application to subdivide a section in Tnkura road received consideration. The subdivision provides for one section with an area of 50 perches, and a full frontage to Tnkura road, and the remaining section with an area of 66 perches with a frontage of 15ft. to Tnkura road and ono chain frontage to the Waimata River. An inspection was made of the section, and the committee sees no objection to the subdivision being approved, and, therefore, recommends accordingly.'' The engineer, Mr. K, li. Thomas, stated:
"Roads.—Gravel maintenance has been carried out on tiie following streets: Dickson, Kara. Ilawiri, Hirini, I'nrau, Harris.: Cockrane ami Stout. Kniti esplanade, Kniti beach road'. dcLuiitour, Iranui. Haronga, and Childors roadsHospital Hill road : The spawling of
weak sections and the supcrelevating of bends bad been completed.
"Footpaths. —Tar oil lias been applied (o various footpaths to control twitch grass and oilier growth.
"Peel Sheet Conveniences.'—The renewing of the hitunient floor with Trinidad asphalt lias .been completed. "Kaiti iSeptic Tank Outfall Drain.— The excavation of 850 ft. of sand and papa and the laying of 388 ft. of 18in. diameter pipe, has been completed. During the 'past fortnight, owing to southerly weather and spring fides, work bad to'he suspended for one week. The portion, now completed constitutes almost all llie work subject, to tidal conditions and from now on progress should be more rapid."
