NOVEL PENSIONS POINT
DREDGEMASTER’S CLAIM QUESTION OF DOMICILE (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. A pension point of importance was raised in connection with the petition of Mr. G. P. Blue, a former dredgemaster at Dunedin, whose request for an old age pension was reported on to the House by the Public Petitions Committee, which recommended 1 it to the Government’s most favourable consideration.
Dr. D. G. McMillan (Lab., Dunedin W.) explained that Mr. Blue was unable to qualify for a pension owing to his absence from New Zealand for several years as dredgemaster, though he maintained his family in New Zealand during that period. Mr. W. A. Bodkin (Nat., C. Otago), who supported the recommendation, pointed out. that seamen were able to secure a pension if their families were domiciled in New Zealand', and this provision should apply to the petitioner. The House adopted the report.
