September 17, 193 G. Dearest Painela, — There’s such lots to write about now that we have decided to exchange food ideas. I think it’s a good suggestion as it will help us both in our housekeeping duties. My tips for this week are Minute Tapioca; cooks in five minutes and so easy to make. McKeaguc’s sell it at 1/- a packet. They also have Morelto, a flavouring for a hot or cold milk drink, but it’s also lovely spread on hot buttered toast; makes also delicious custards, blancmanges, cakes, pastries, icing and cake fillings, and such a big bottle for 2/3. Of course you will be soon putting down your supply of preserved eggs. I am going to do a big lot, and as usual am using most reliable Eggo, as eggs preserved with this product can be fried, poached or boiled. Cheap too. A 1/6 jar does 400 eggs, and they have always kept beautifully. I say, do you ever sneak in a little ' treat for yourself when ordering the groceries. ! do, because I think I earn it, and it doesn’t make much difference to the grocery bill. McKeague’s sent me last week a lovely tin of Dextros Health Toffee. i don’t require anything for my health, but this Toffee is simply IT. The tin costs 1/-, but there’s much more than a shilling’s enjoyment out of the large number of pieces the tin contains. And I say, a nice new novelty for the bath, Colgate’s Floating Soap, delicately scented and 4ld a cake. Such a comfort in the bath not to have to hunt for the soap, and economical too, because you always see it there when you get out, and remember to stop waste and lift out the soap. All these lovely things I buy from one of McKeague’s shops in the safe parking part of Gladstone and Ormond Roads. I’m simply anxiously waiting your next letter. Ever yours, PAT.
