GISBORNE HIGH SCHOOL
BOARD OF GOVERNORS SHORT MONTHLY MEETING The monthly mooting of the GisDornc High School Hoard of Governors was held yesterday afternoon in the office of the secretary. Those present were Messrs. .1. H. Sunderland, chairman, H. H. DeCosta, E. H. Raker, I-'. W. Nolan, T. Todd, IT. E. Bright, Dr. A. L. Singer, and the secretary, Mr. C. If. Bull. The meeting was a short one as the members had an appointment with the Director of Education. Mr. X. T. Lambourne, at the High School.
Arising out of the minutes of the last meeting, the secretary reported that letters had been received from the Education Department stating that; the question of the Indies' staff-room accommodation was receiving consideration, and that the grants for asphalting the school yard and renovating the earc",alter's house could not be approved. He suggested that those matters should lie placed before Air. Lambourne while lie was in Gisborne, and Iho members agreed to this course being taken. A letter from the education Department dealing with the control ol school sports funds was received and this stated that in future the control of such funds had to be in the hands of the board. As tills fund was at present controlled by the pupils ami masters, tho secretary was instructed to inform them of the new regulations. The statement of receipts and payments showed that the board had a credit balance of £SS2 His 4d in the bank on August. 19, and of £302 5s (id on September Hi. Receipts for that period, including Government grants, amounted to £714 ,17s 9d, totalled £1503 ISs 9d. Payments were made up as follow:—Salaries and wages, £775 Ss 9d; workshop equipment, £290 10s 3d; new typewriters, £ltiS; sundries. £°‘>9 5s 4(i; evening technical classes, £l4 8s; rectory, £2OO 14s Id; Ayton House, £lO5 His ltd; total. £1784 9s 7(1. CONVEYANCE OF PUPILS A circular was received from the Direr-, tor of Education, Mr. N. T. Lambourne, sent out to assist hoards in making arrangements for the conveyance ol pupils attending schools to receive postprimary education. Ihe department was prepared lo make grants as follows. “(a) Sixpence per return trip lor each pupil conveyed to I lie nearest postprimary school, provided that the home "is over three miles from iho school from the shortest route.
“(b) Sixpence per return trip for each p ipd couveved bv ferry boat or launch to enable h.mAr her to attend the nearest post-primary school. “(e) Eightuenee per return trip for each pupil where the distance of the home from the school is five miles or mor;.
“(<1) Subject, to the approval of tho Director of Education, two-thirds of the recognised rates in the case ol a pupil using a horse as a means ol conveyance where roads are non-existent or arc suitable for wheeled vehicles.
“(c) Five shillings per week for the board of each pupil who through impracticability of conveyance lias to live away from home in order to attend a postprimnrv school.” It, was decided that the necessary information should he forwarded to the director.
Accounts amounting to £1332 19s Id Were passed for payment.
