THREE NEWS SHIPS
FOR AUSTRALIAN ROUTE Three new vessels lor the BritishAustralian route are being built by Vickers-Armstrong at Harrow. They may be ready in iimo to take passengers home after the Coronation. Two are for the P. and O'. Line. I hey will he very similar (o (he “Strath boats; 24,003 tons, twin-screw turbinedriven, eight, decks, a speed of 21 Knots, and accommodation lor 450 first-ejass passengers and 670 tourist class. One may be launched next May, and the other in June or July, says the Wellington Post’s London representative. The third vessel is ordered lor the Orient Company and will be a sister ship to the 0ri0n,‘23,000 tons. When she is launched next December, she will be named the. Orcadcs. After a trial cruise she is expected to make her maiden voyage to Australia in September, 1937. The Shaw, Savill Company, which has taken over the Fspernnee Bay and renamed her the Arawa, is busy iefitting her. No announcement will he made concerning these alterations for at lens! another month.
