At first it was called Millan-cr, but common usage changed it so that it is now milliner. Up until 1700 all milliners were men. The millinery business was a very prominent and profitable business in the city of Milan, and anyone who lived in Milan and travelled' from that city was called 1 Millan-er. ’ ” '

A FAMOUS man died not long ago. ™ M. Marcel Grateau, inventor of the (t marcel wave,” who used to curl the hair of the Paris shopgirls for “twopence a head” and afterwards charged Madame Melba and other celebrities £lO for a “whole head wave,” died at the age of 84. years. Paris seems to have led in head fashions as well as dress fashions for many a long day, and one reads how in the eighteenth century, through the influence of French fashions, the dressing of hair, both in the case ol males and females, “rose to a great pitch of extravagance and folly, and the hair of a lady of fashion was frizzed up in convolutions and curls, decorated with jewels, ribbons, and feathers, and filled with pomatum and powder to a degree perfectly monstrous.” FREE CLOTHES PEGS!
