HILL COUNTRY SCHOOLS
SPORTS COMPETITION GOOD DAY AT MATAWAI (Huralil Correspondent.) On Saturday afternoon the combined lull country schools met at Matawai for the annual competition. Owing to the minutes of the 1934 meeting being unavailable, the 1935 meeting was not held. .1180, there have been so many changes of teachers in these schools in recent years that there is some doubt about the donors of the cups. Football, basketball and other ball games, played under good weather conditions, made a red letter day for the pupils. The Matawai School Committee and its helpers acted as hosts and supplied afternoon tea for the visiting youngsters. The football competitions were refereed by Messrs. 11. Mortleman and 11. Wilson, and the Matawai schoolboys proved the winners. In the basketball, Motu-Motuhora combined and Matawai at first drew, blit it was finally decided to play otf, when Motu-Motuhora won by one goal to nil. Miss Frizoll and Messrs. Dutton and Swan acted as referees.
The other schools represented were llomebrook, Koranga, Wliakarau, R.akauroa, and Otoko. There was a record attendance at the school grounds.
