The final of tin* championship in flic aiomal provincial tournament of tin 1 Poverty i!ay Ladies’ Golf C'lub was won yesl on lay afternoon on the Awajumi ‘links by Mrs. D. K. Chrisp. who defeated Miss Til*. Ormond, Wairoa. three and two. Tin- weal Iter was pleasant, the course, in splendid conditions, and a large gallery of interested players and members foi lowed the finalists. At the first hole Mrs. f'hrisp played a dever recovery shot out ol the hunkei to the giieen iu four and she sank her hall for a six. Miss Ormond failed in her putting, this adding lour strokes to her score and making her total eight. Mrs. piirisp also took the second hole in three, against Miss Ormond’s lour. Mrs. Curisp put her tee shot on the green, while "Miss Ormond's landed in the hunker. The third was halved in live, both players pulling their second shots. The fourth also was halved with fours, both players going firounh the green with then' tee' shot. . Mi r. Ormond took the honours at the fifth with a perfect mashie third which landed yin. off the pin. Mi's. Clnisp took six strokes. Miss Ormond was again all square at the sixth, which she won with a three. Mrs. Chrisp took three putts for a four. The seventh was decided in iavonr ol Mrs. Chrisp in four. Miss Ormond sliced her second stroke into the rough and al though she made a good recovery she re turned a five. Miss Ormond was just through the green in two at. the eighth and failed to hole a 6ft. putt. Mrs. Chrisp took the hole will) a four. Miss Ormond was not up to form at the ninth, taking) four to reach the green and two putts. Mrs. Clnisp consolidated her position by playing two perfect strokes to (lie green and she just failed to sink her third.

P.otli players hooked their drives at the tenth. Miss Ormond being on the green in two and Mrs. Chrisp a little short. Mrs. Chrisp sank her approach putt for a three and Miss Ormond took five. At this stage Mrs. Chrisp was four up. At the next hole Miss Ormond found the bunker and Mrs. Chrisp went through the green. Mrs. Chrisp’s approach fell short and AT iss Ormond get out of trouble, with a fine explosion shot which placed her close to the pin. The latter took the hole with a three, and Mrs. Chrisp sank her fourth. The twelfth hole was halved in sixes, as was the thirteenth, where Mrs. Chrisp failed to take an opportunity when she landed short in two. At the fourteenth both were short in two and had to sink 6ff. putts for fours. Miss Ormond took five and Mrs. Chrisp did not hole out The fifteenth was halved in fives, and although Miss Ormond played a beauti ful shot out of the bunker she did not gain an advantage. The match ended at the next hole, when Miss Ormond failed to hole a 4ft. putt for a- five. Mrs. Chrisp took five and won the match three up and two to play. NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL TOURNAMENT DATES FIXTURES OF INTEREST

A definite assurance was received from New Plymouth at the recent monthly meeting of the New Zealand Golf Association that the new work being undertaken on the course would be completed and that the links would be in first class condition for the comiianocement of the championships on October 22. The following standard scratch scores were allotted :--Ellesmere 72. Glen Gary 72, Otamavakau 74. Jtnssley 74. Sentry Hill 68, Templeton 74. Waingaro 68. and Glen Alassov 61.

From the. list, of .tournaments advised to the association, the following are those likely to draw representatives from Poverty Bay :

Hastings—Annual tournament, August 27. 28. and 20.

Rotorua—Open amateur handicap tournament, August- 25 , 26, 27, and 28. (The SO entrants with the lowest handicaps will be accepted). Hamilton—Annual South Auckland tournament, September 3,4, and 5. Napier—Hawke’s Bay amateur championships, September 8. 9, IC, and 11.

Poverty Bay.—Annual tournament September 1, 2, and 3. Rotorua.— Veterans’ tournament, Sep (ember 1,2, 3, and 4.
