DROUGHT IN AMERICA DURATION AND EXTENT WASHINGTON, Aug. (>. The drought was pronounced officially to-day by Mr. J. B. Kinger, iu a Weather Bureau report, to he far the most severe in tire climatological history of the United States. Mr. H. A. Wallace, the Secretary of Agriculture, stated that the 1934 drought was worse in the spring and the early .summer, but for duration and. geographical scope the present was the worst on record.
Mr. Wallace explained that the country imported 35,000,000 bushels of Canadian wheat in .193-1, and the spring wheat crop was still shorter.
