QUARTERLY MEETING TWO CALLS REPORTED (Hfirald Correspondent.) 'the quarterly meeting of the W.airoa Fire Board was held at the Borough Council chambers yesterday. Present: Messrs. 11. L. Marker, chairman, J. \V. Norrie, YV. 0. Hav, ('.. C. Fletcher, and W. 11. Brady. .Mr. Norrie reported on the cost of salvage sheets mentioned at the previous meeting.— It was decided that local prices should be obtained first by the superintendent, Mr. D. Byford, with power to act. The painting of the doors of the station also was authorised.

The superintendent reported for the quarter ended June 30: —"Two calls were received, both to chimney fires. 1 On both occasions no damage was done. 1 have disposed of the old fire reel to Messrs. Swifts, Limited, for £l, ar.VI also 100 ft. of second-hand hose with couplings attached to the Wairoa Borough Council; no price was arranged, but would suggest (id per foot for the hose and 23s (id for tho 'couplings. J have promoted Messenger G. Duley to the rank of fireman to fill the vacancy caused through the resignation of Fireman V. Feasor, who has left tho district. Ai present the brigade is without :i messenger. I would .suggest thai the Borough Council's electrical department bo asked to service the fire siren switch gear at the station about once a month for a small charge. Six practices have been held, and tho attendance and discipline have been very satisfactory." Mr. Hay asked why no prosecution resulted from the chimney fires.
