MAUI POMARE MEMORIAL
CEREMONY NEXT WEEK GOVERNOR TO ATTEND (Per Press Association.; NEW PLYMOUTH, last night. In response to the invitation of the committee in charge of next week's proceedings at Waitara for the unveiling of the Sir Maui Pomare memorial and the opening of the Memorial Maori meeting house, advice lias been received that the Governor-General, Viscount Gahvay, will be present at the ceremonies on .June 27.
The Prime Minister, the lit. Hon. M. J. Savage, has also intimated his intention of being present, and there will be other members of the Cabinet and members of Parliament from all over the Dominion, as well as members of the Maori tribes from all over the North Island and some from the South Island.
Tuesday is expected to 'be the day on which the great bulk of the Maori visitors from other districts will arrive, and they will be welcomed according to the traditional customs. The following day will be devoted to sports and entertainments, with tribal meetings. A hockey tournament under the jurisdiction of the East Coast Hockey Federation will be played on the New Plymouth airport grounds and the finals on Saturday at Waitara. There will be Rugby matches on Thursday and Saturday, that on Thursday be ing Taranaki v. Wanganui Maoris, ami on Saturday the match will bo East Coast v. other Maoris.
