The Moth machine ZK-AAU, owned by the Auckland Aero Club, struck a low bank while landing at the Mangere aerodrome on Friday and overturned. The pilot, Mr. W. Badham, and his passenger escaped uninjured, but the plane suffered a broken propeller, a damaged undercarriage and slightly crumpled wings. En route to Melbourne, two largo crates of trees, each measuring 12ft. by sft., and each carried on a separate motor lorry, left Hastings last week, and will be transhipped at Wellington. The crates were filled with some 80 weeping-elms and weeping-ash, and are being shipped to Melbourne, having been bought by a well-known nurseryman there.
