INrm,AIMTV UF WORDS The popularity of the words New Zealand” in the titles of organisations ami firms creates a little problem in con neelion with telephone directories. Cartful thought is given to their ariangement, with the object of earning the minimum amount of difficulty in finding a subscriber’s number. Kvery entry has to appear in strict alphabetical order, so that the prefatory words ‘‘.New Zealand occurring! in a large group serve to partly obscure a large number of the entries. The Wellington directory, for instance, has POO entries commencing ‘‘New Zealand.” but the Post Oliice is unable to make am" rearrangement ol this long list for the purpose of achieving easier reference, as the great majority ol ihe entries are the registered legal titles ol companies or incorporated bodies, The telenhone service is growing fast, ami looking ahead, one visualises the tune when Ton many “Now Zealands in the list will become embarrassing, parlien larlv to subscribers in a hurry. From a reforent'e point of view, the most suitable title for a firm is thnl which gives an indication of its business in the first word.
