HITLER STILL SILENT
BRITAIN AWAITS REPLY PE ACE - PLAN ELUCIDATION QUESTION IN COMMONS (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 1.15 p.m. RUGBY, .June 10. The inquiries addressed to the German Government by the British Government with a view to'clarifying the proposals of Heir Hitler for negotiations for peace on a new basis were mentioned at question time in the House of Commons today.
Tho Foreign Secretary, Air. Anthony Kden, said that no reply had yet been received to the communication made by the British Ambassador in Berlin on May 6. "On May 23 the British Ambassador, Sir Eric Pliipps, was instructed to remind the German Government of tho desire of His Majesty's Government to receive a reply," continued Mr. Eden. "The Ambassador was further asked to emphasise that His .Majesty's Government was anxious lo elucidate as soon as possible the points which were not clear lo it in the German Government's memoranda of March 7, 24 and 31, and that the purpose of His Majesty's Government was to ensure that general negotiations should bo opened for the conclusion of western and eastern European security arrangements and the return of Germany'to the League of Nations with a view to a,permanent solution of theconlinuing situation created by the German Government's action on March 7. In reply it was intimated to Sir Eric Phipps by the German Government on May 26 that no reply would be forthcoming until after the formation of the now French Government."
