ALLEGATION OF BIGAMY
WOMAN FOR TRIAL STORY OF MARRIAGES (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Mary Amelia Reynolds, a domestic, aged 42 years, pleaded not guilty in the .Magistrate's Court this morning to a charge of bigamy. She was committed for trial.
Evidence was given by William Reynolds, a labourer, of Rlenheim, that lie married the accused at Rlenheim in 1915. Two years later, she left him ami went in Wellington. He did not think his wife could read or write when she married him.
Evidence given by the police was that in a statement Ihe an used had Haul that fur a fortnight before her second ‘'marriage,’’ she lied been drinking for three days. Richard Edward Hoe, a stevedore, of I vtlillnn. said that lie married the fie- < used in 1924. She said she was a widow. Five years after the marriage si.,- said: ”1 may as well tell you that i- v first husband is stilt alive.” She finally left him in 1953. Hail of R 509 was allowed.
