JONES DEFEATS BENNETT THREE ROUNDS SUFFICIENT (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn. > SYDNEY, June 1. To-night the American negro, Tommy Jones (10.12), stopped the American welter, Leonard Bennett (10.11), in the third round. Jones’ aggressiveness, which had hitherto asserted itself in local contests, was again responsible for the abrupt termination of what the stadium management hoped would be a better balanced bout, as difficulty is being experienced in getting suitable opponents for Jones who, to-night:, floored his man in the second and finished him off' in the third round. The youthful boxer, llarry Cohen (8.9), scored his third successive win since rejecting Olympic selection by gaining a technical knock-out in the second round of preliminary contest against Frank Cartwright (8.9).
PLUTO BEATS FISHER WIDE MARGIN OF POINTS BOUT OF TWELVE BOUNDS (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. A return professional boxing contest between Cyril Pluto, welterweight champion of Western Australia, and Fred Fisher, the ex-Englisli middleweight, ended in a win for Pluto on points at the end ol: 12 threeminute rounds. Pluto won decisively bv a wide margin of points.
