Jn the seventies he qualified in Dublin and was appointed as house surgeon at Inverness Inliniwry, Scotland. He then raised a company of volunteers, which al once became known as Dr. Smith's "Bulldogs." He married the youngest daughter of Mr. David Kendiick, Mayor of Wolverhamplou. Subsequently deceased sought to make his fortune in the Kloiulyke, hut his venture did not prove n success. Afterward he went hi Vienna and took a post graduate ionise ill bis profession. He practised his profession ill several centres in Australia, and then came In New Zealand and fdlhuvnl hi? profession in I .'ishoriie. Lah-r deceased lived in Tasmania. Visiting Melbourne al the outbreak of Die war. and find, ing a shortage of medical men. Dr. Siiiith-110/ier al once, although at the age of 63, offered his services. He was then appoiided medical ollicer in charge of the Nestor, carrying troops to Fgvpl, and afterward served on other 'transports. fn 1919 he was medical officer on the ship taking prisoners of war home, lie then returned to Tasmania, and following the death of his wife two yens ago. he returned to Auckland.

Wilson, and one child. After living some years in Taradale. they look up land near Woodvillc Shortlv after this Mr. Wilsoa was accidentally killed. 'Mrs. Wilson later married Mr. Charles Bradford, who predeceased her some years ago.
