THE WEATHER To-day’s .North Island Report. Bine skies were reported ibis morning in the Bay of Plenty and at Auckland, hut overcast, conditions prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light to fresh southerly breezes were general. The barometer bail continued to rise slowly. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland and Napier 52 degrees. Taunmga, Opoliki, and Gisborne 49. Rust Cape 53, and Wellington 47. Hough seas were reported at Gisborne and East Cape ; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night’s Forecast There is no appreciable change in the meteorological situation. An anticyclone still extends from Eastern Australia on to New Zealand, while the pressure is rather low In the north and east. Winds, light and variable south of Nelson and Marlborough; elsewhere southerly to south-easterly prevailing, strong at places north of Kawhia and Fast Cape, but otherwise, light, to moderate. Seas, in New Zealand wafers, rough north of East Cape and a considerable but decreasing southerly swell south of East Cape; elsewhere, slight to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea, east to south-east, winds, strong in the far northern area with rough seas: elsewhere slight to moderate seas. Weather, fair to fine in most districts, but further scattered rains likely in the far northern and north-eastern portions ot the North Island : cold night temperatures with sharp frosts. Midday Forecast General inference.—-The pressure has now risen somewhat to the north and east and an aiitievelone still covers the Tasman Sea and New Zealand. Forecast.—Sout belly to soulh-easterly winds, light to moderate mainly, but strong at first in exposed positions. Weather for the most part fair, but with some isolated showers in the north-east. Temperatures cold. Seas • moderate lo rather rough.
