NEW AUSTRALIAN TARIFFS

In answer to questions in the House of; Commons regarding the tariff amendments recently discussed in the Australian Parliament, the .President of the Board of Trade, Mr. Walter Runciman, said that on the basis of the rerent import statistics the reductions to he made affected the United Kingdom trade to the extent, of ci.doo.oon.
The Commonwealth ’Government had introduced important proposals relating (o the import of the cotton and rayon goods, and motor ears and some other cominodit ies.
While il was not possible to estimate the exact effect of these new proposals on the United Kingdom exports to Australia, lie was glad to say that they include,] measures, notably those relating to cotton and rayon, which should prove of substantial benefit to the United Kingdom trade.
Air. Runciman said he shared the hope that the Commonwealth Government. .arrangements would strengthen trade between the two countries.
