JUDGING COMMENCES

1936 WINTER SHOW OPENING TO-NIGHT SIDESHOWS INDOORS Judging commenced this, morning at. Messrs. Common, Shelton and Company s woolstore in Peel street on the record entry of over 2300 exhibits In the iourteenth annual show of the Poverty Bay Winter Show Association, which will be thrown open to the public at 7 o’clock this evening. The official opening will bo performed by the deputy-Mayor, Mr. li. Holmes, at 8 p.m.

All sections this year have been well supported, especially the home industries, garden produce, and sewing, in which the number of entries has largely increased. Compared with last , year, only one section, the literary division, has dropped back. Additional attractions will be the ping-pong championship and the baby show.

This year all the sideshows will be controlled and worked by the association and will be situated within the building. The money will remain in the town and will be spent in furthering the interests of the show. Although there are one or two shows on tlie ground floor, the majority of these attractions are situated upstairs’. .

Special attractions this evening .will be the canary and cage bird show, national dancing, 'and the first rounds of the Poverty Bay ping-pong championship, while selections will be played by the Winter Show orchestra. TRADE EXHIBITS.

Every foot of space available for trade exhibits has neon taken at the Show, and many line displays, reflecting credit on the business houses making them, have been erected. Nov only is the tanning community well catered for, but in all the stalls there is something of interest to townspeople. AWARDS SCHOOL EXHIBITS WRITING Additional results in the writing section of the school exhibits have been made available. The judge of the print script, Mr. B. Morrison, in commenting on tile class said that the children should pay more attention to headings. They should try also to keep their printing upright, avoid cramping, and attempt to keep a uniform size throughout their work.
