A GOOD FINISH
APPLE EXPORT SEASON GISBORNE SHIPMENTS Apple exports trom Gisborne during the latter part of the season have exceeded expectations, and to date over 20,000 cases have been sent overseas. The season will close on Tuesday, unless an extension is permitted for certain varieties. It is expected that approximately 1000 cases, mainly Doughertys and Stunners, will be shipped from Gisborne on Tuesday, unless a restriction is placed on the final packings. Most parts of New Zealand have had an experience similar to that of Gisborne, namely, a bad start and a good finish. As a result early exports were below shipping allotments, and the quantity of fruit available at present is in excess of the shipping- space available. A suggestion has been made, therefore, that some of the late pickings may have to be refused shipping space, but nothing definite has been madepublic in this respect yet.
The consignment taken from Gisborne by the Wamui yesterday was one of the largest coastwise apple freights from the district this season, and totalled 2288 cases, mainly Stunners and Doughertys, with a few v ßallarats and Statesman.
