HITLER’S COLONY HINT
POPULATION TOO BIT} BERLIN, Feb. 17. A veiled reference to Germany’s lack of space, one of the arguments upon which the present demand for colonies is based, was made by Herr Hitler in his speech ,at the opening of the Berlin Motor Show yesterday. The passage seems to have escaped general attention. “We have too large a population for the area available,” he declared. Earlier in his speech, he referred significantly to the political importance of raw materials. “in the dawn of history,” he said, “grazing gro'unds or salt springs determined the path and thereby the destiny ol individual tribes, and later the pro sence of iron or metal dominated the political actions of the peoples. ; “To-day it. is coal and oil which, as indispensable possessions, have a decisive influence on the direction '.of '.our. ’ political and economic thought.”
