SYDNEY EXCHANGE EXPANSION IN. TURNOVER SYDNEY, March 26. Renewed buying interest in investments was reflected in a marked expansion in the turnover on the Sydney Stock Exchange to-day. There was a hardening tendency in values and Broken Hill shares commanded greater attention. AUSTRALIAN STEEL PROFIT ONE-THIRD LOWER Australian Iron and Steel, Limited, Sydney, reports a net profit lor the year ended' November 36-" of £BO,OOO, compared with £120,774 earned in the previous year and £70,350 in 1 032-33: Dividends of 7i per cent, per annum on the cumulative preference shares for the halt-years ended November 1, 1931, and May 1, mil', less statutory deduction for the latter period, together require £65,142, and £395,154 is carried forward, against £380,287 brought into the accounts. The directors state that the outlook continues to be satisfactory. Although it is not stated, the reduction of prices announced by the Broken Hill Proprietary Company, Limited, in May last appears to have forced the company to work on a lower margin of profit. The company's ordinary capital of £2,700,000 is now owned entirely by the Broken Hill Proprietary Com ; pany, which bought out the interests of Other concerns. The preference capital of £1,000,000 is held publicly. E.S. AND A. "BANK INEERIM. DIVIDEND gNCHANCVED The English, Scottish, and Australian Bank, Ltd., has advised the Stock Exchange Association that an interim dividend of -I per cent, for the six months'ended December .'!), 1935, will be payable on May 1. Share transfer books will bo closed from April 17 to .'id inclusive.' The dividend is at an unchanged rate. WOOLWORTHS (N..Z.) LTD. INTERIM PREFERENCE DIVIDEND Woohvort.hs (N,Jj,"J, Limited, have advised the Stock Exchange Association that an interim div.aend of 4} per cent, oh the paid-up preference share capital of the company has been declared', and will be payable on April 15. The preference share transfer books will be closed from April S to 15, inclusive, the last date on which the transfers will be accepted being April 4.
