CHAIN STORE PHARMACIES

SUBJECT OF PETITIONS POSSIBLE FRESH DELUGE WORK FOR COMMITTEE (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. It. seems likely that the whole question of the chain store pharmacy in New Zealand, which was the subject of numerous petitions to Parliament last session, will again come prominently before the House in the immediate'future, when a fresh deluge of petitions can. be expected. So far as can be ascertained the position is that the Government has merely confirmed the decision of the previous Government that a large overseas company should be granted permission tc open pharmacy stores at Wellington and Auckland. Members of the present administration, however, when in Opposition generally leaned towards the side of the chemists, who strenuously opposed the establishment of the chain store principle, but with (lie change of Government, the whole question is brought prominently into the arena of politics again. Bofn sides tire likely to present their view to Parliament in the immediate future. The whole question will then be considered by a committee of the House, and wlien it presents a report further action may be expected by the Cabinet, but, in the meantime, no commitment, seems to have been given to either side as to what will be done in the future.
