Penzance" ami "Trial by Jury" on Monday night, and "The Women of the Guard*' on Tuesday night. Throughout the lour of the present Williamson company plebiscites have been taken to determine lb.' older of popularity of the Savoy operas, with the result' that "'The Veoniell ol the Guard" received the greatest number of voles. It would be difficult to imagine a greater contra,! than that presented bv these two operas. ];rom the bubbling merriment of the Venetian scene with lis highly-comic story of the sharing of the throne between the two gondolier!, and the ludicrous magnificence of that celebrated diplomat, the Duke of Plaza-Toro. to the pathetic story of the merry man and the maid, set in the grim 'surroundings of the Tower of London, is a change indeed. The inimitable Ivan Men/.ics is the chief jester of the company, and other wellknown names in Ibe cast are those ol Misses Kvelvu Gardiner, Winifred Lawson, Kileen "Kelly.
