AMATEUR ATHLETICS
EXECUTIVE MEETING SHIELD CONTEST A meeting of the executive of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier dub was held last evening, there being present Messrs. W. Mi Wildish, chairman, J. Algie, P. Gavin, E. Chambers, A. Morrison, M. Taylor, It. Quinn, T. It. Gordon, and Los Barker, hon. secretary. The following programme was approved for the club's championship meeting to be held on the Chiklers Road Reserve on Tuesday evening:---100yds. junior and senior. 440yds. senior, one-mile flat, 440yds. hurdles, 120yds. hurdles, 80yds. ladies' hurdles, three-mile senior cycle, one mile junior cycle, ladies' broad jump, one mile walk, javelin throw, discus throw, pole vault, and hop, step and jump. A letter was received from the Napier Amateur Athletic Olnb staling that it was sending a strong team of 23athlete.' lo defend the Hawke's Bay Herald Shield and that Frank the New Zealand 120 and 220yds. hurdles title holder, would bo seen in exhibition hurdle, events.
Additional selections in the Gisborm team include J. O'Rourko for the pole vault, S. Gribbeii for the high* jump. M.' Stevens and T. McGuflie for llk 120yds*. hurdles, W. Wallace for the bop, step and jump, and R. Kolls for the broad jump. No change, was made in the officials.
The dance committee reported' that arrangements were well in hand for the dance to be held in the Blue Room on Saturday night, at which the Napier team will bo the guests of the, local club.
A letter was received from the Opolik Amateur Athletic and Cycling Clnl thanking the Gisborne club for snulint' such a strong team to Opoliki on March 7. The. letter mentioned that the visit had done much to stimulate the spoil in that district and the Opotiki club was looking forward to another visit from the Gisborne athletes next year. Tho thanks, of the club were tendered lo Mr. Parker for a donation.
The Napier athletic team is expected to arrive here at 8 o'clock to-night, when the members will be welcomed at the club rooms by Gisborne officials. Tin following changes hifve been made in the Napier team :—-S. Gollop and A. Cornford will compete in the distance running. V. McCntcheon in the sprini events, T. Bickerstaff ■ in the hop. step a'nd jump, and broad jump, in addition lo the sprints, while the cyclists will include V. Manning and J. L. McDonald.
