WATER SHORTAGE
SERIOUS AT BLUFF CONSERVING THE SUPPLY (Per Press Association.) BLUFF, this day. There is an extreme shortage ol water at Bluff at present. Mr. XV. A. Ott. chairman of the Bluff Harbour Board, stated to-day that the reset' voir was very low, and householders would have to use as little water as possible. "All residents of Bluff who receive water from the reservoir will bo posted a circular asking them to be careful with the supply," lie said. "We have reduced i,hc pressure, and this should help lo keep the water level up. In the past, the I'ail way Department "s locomotives 1 ravelling to Bluff took on water at Bluff, out now we have made arrangements for the locomotives to have their tanks replenished at Ijiyercargill. "Various shipping companies have been asked to tel.l the masters of their vessels that we are experiencing a water shortage and at present we can only simply the minimum requirements of ships. The tug Awnrua is 'equipped with an evaporator, and this will be b/ought into 'operation to save the fresh water.'' The level of the reservoir is very low, atid only heavy rainfall can prevent the position from becoming y.cry serious. •
