ORDER OF DRUIDS
GRAND LODGE VISIT WARM WELCOME GIVEN INSTRUCTIVE ADDRESSES A special general meeting of the Turanganui Lodge No. 7, L.A.0.D., was held on Tuesday evening in the Masonic Hall, the occasion being the visit ol the grand president and past grand president of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand, Bros. W. J. Gregory and G. H. Lcthaby respectively. Both the Grand Lodge visitors are resident in Auckland, and their stay in Gisborne was a brief one, but interest in the order was much enhanced as a result of the meeting.
The attendance was large and repre-/ sentative of both town and country members; and was presided over by the Arch , Druid. Bro. A. Craill, who extended to the visitors a most hearty welcome, the usual Druidic honours be. ing accorded to Bros. Gregory and Lcthaby.
Addresses given by the representatives of the Grand Lodge were highly informative, and were listened to with close attention. Those who heard their remarks on the great success achieved by the order in its social and financial programmes, and on projected innovations to assist- -the older - members in their declining years, " were highly pleased, and at the conclusion of the second address, Bros. Gregory and Lethaby 'were tendered votes of thanks. An adjournment was then made to Findlays' rooms, where a social gathering was. held in honour of the visitors. A first-class programme had. been arranged, and the function proved highly enjoyable. The toast of the Grand Lodge was proposed by Bro. J. Jackson, P.A.. the Grand 1 Lodge officers responding, and Bro. Gregory later toasting the Turanganui Lodge", Bro. M. W. Craig replying; while Bro. Lcthaby proposed the health of the Turanganui trustees, the reply being entrusted to Bro. T, G. Lawless. Other toasts were:' —"Visiting Brethren," proposed by Bro. M. Breingan and responded to by Bro. Dodge, of Eureka Ledge; "The Artists,'' proposed by Bro. G. Downey and replied to by'Mr. O. Pritchard, and The Press," proposed by Bro. C. W. food and responded to by Bro. J. A. Eaton.
During the evening items were contributed by Messrs. R. Oarr, H. Wall, R. Nicholson, R. Gritton, and Owen Pritchard. ...... .-,..■
At the conclusion of the programme, the grand president thanked the officers and members of Lodge Turanganui for their hospitality, and for the brotherly manner in which they had been received and their messages heard.
