The Association of British Chambers of Commerce has adopted a report of a special committee on the Ottawa agreements. The report urges the Government to reserve the right in any revision to impose duties or quotas on Dominion products if such action is found necessary for safeguarding! industries in the [Tinted Kingdom.

The report adds that there is _ considerable dissatisfaction in many indusiries with the way the articles of the Ottawa agreements have been implemented and also with Ihe methods of the tariff hoards, which ofien ale complicated and oyerslnw. The report recommends Britain to seek the extension of amplification of the Ottawa agreements, preferably by separate negotiation with each Dominion, at the earliest opportunity. The special agreements should relate to specific commodities, thus diminishing the causes ul friction likely in agreements based on general principles. The report opposes the restrictions ol the production of loodstuTTs, considering! thai increased , consumption should absorb surpluses, and requests the Government to seek uniform Empire-wide legislation relating lo the taxation of profits on inter-Imperial trade.
