Aubrey Mowle, alderman of tho Port Macquarie Municipal Council, proceeded against Alban Charles Elliott, Mayor, for having direct or indirect pecuniary interest in an Agreement relating to payment, nf certain moneys to the municipal council by the Port Mncquaric Golf Club, and J'or acting in a- civic office h.m aldernian.
In 1933 the council secured a loan of £6OO to bo expended on improve* ments to parks and reserves, £l5O being spent on the golf links in Port Macquarie Park, under the council's control. Alflerman Elliott was secretary of tho golf club, which offered to repay the £l5O as rent over a period of years. * The,magistrate, Mr. Grugenn, found Softie * charge proved, but said that in ". view of defendant's character and extenuating circumstances, he hud de-, cided it was inexpedient, to inflict any punishment, and ho made an order dismissing tho charge.. Defendant was ordered to pay compensation by way of costs, amounting to £3 17s. • Immediately Alderman Elliott roughed. Aldermen T. A. Hudson, jDriek, Marshall, Suters, and Ross have llso resigned.
