SYDNEY CONTROVERSY

By using both his deliberative and casting votes, the Lord Mayor, Alderman Howie, enabled the Reform Party in the City Council to defeat a motion by Labour aldermen to rescind the decision of the council to exclude the press from meetings of standing committees.
Two aldermen said they would divulge the business done at committee meetings to .the newspapers.
