FLOODLIGHT MEETING MARTIN CUP TO HOCKLEY DAWSON WINS 220YDS, RACE The weekly floodlight sports meeting conducted bv the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club was held last evening on the Cliilders "Road Reserve, The evening did not prove a very favourable one for an outdoor fixture, a chilly southerly breeze blowing across llie_ grounds, making conditions almost wintry. One trophy event was decided, the Martin-Aisla'bie Cup being annexed by P. Hockley. The trophy _is awarded to the competitor gaining most points over three distances, 220yds., 440yds., and 880yds., all handicap events. Although Hockley did not. win any of the three events, 'he gave a consistent performance to gain two seconds and a third, making seven points for the cup. H.aisman, Quinu and Dawson, the runners-up, each secured a win, or five points. An ex-Auckland amateur splinter, C. 11. Dawson, was competing for the first time on the local track. Off lOytls. in the 220yds. handicap he 'had a narrow win from L., Jones, 12yds.
