ABYSSINIANS CHARGED ABUSE OF RED CROSS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The Italian Consul, Dr. Mario Dessaules, states that the Italian Government, in a note dated February 28, reported to the League of Nations and to the Committee of International Red Cross new cases of torture and killing by the Abyssinians of Italian prisoners.
These cases were based on t'he sworn testimony of some members of the Egyptian Red Cross 'mission in Ethiopia, and further particulars were furnished by an eye-witness, an Egyptian male nurse, regarding the. sufferings of Lieut. Minnitti, who had his fingers cut off and was emasculated whilst still alive, and when dead his body was flayed and decapitated, and then cut into pieces. The report was largely documented, and contained fresh cases of emasculation, cruelty to the wounded, killing the wounded, and the wounding of stretcher-bearers. Tt also reported the assassination of Chaplain Giuliani, and was accompanied by several declarations of different dependable sources, all being in concordance and proving the abuse of the Red Cross emblem by Abyssinians for defensive and offensive military purposes.
