INTER-CLUB TENNIS

Inter-club tennis matches, which have been postponed several times on account of bail weather, were played on the Motu courts last week-end, when teams from Matawai and Motuhora competed against Motu. The games between Matawai and Motu were closely contested, Matawai proving the victors by 13 games to 11. Only seven games had been played in the Motuhora contest when heavy rain prevented further play. The match'will be ended at the first opportunity. Following are ttie results of the play between Matawai and Motu, the visitors being mentioned first in each case: Combined Doubles.—Miss Dare and R-. Mortleman d. Miss F. Moffatt and N. A great deal of interest has been aroused in Motu and the surrounding district, by the formation of a very active Reading and Dramatic Circle and the coming production of three one-act plays. The circle has aiven the opportunity to many male members to show their ability on the amateur stage, and it also provides trood occupation and entertainment for the young people. The final dress, rehearsal for the production of "Thirty Minutes in a Street," "No, 10," and
"The Legend," takes place on Thursday night. The February rainfall was very heavy and the gauge at Marotnoko registered 9.62 in. on 15 wet days, the heaviest fall being on February 1. with 3.66 in.
Mr. and Mrs. {'. G. Anderson arrived home on Sunday after an enjoyable holiday spent in various parts of the North Island.—Mrs. Arthur Lewis, Birch Hill, who became ill suddenly on Sunday, was admitted to the Cook Hospital and underwent an operation. Latest advice states that she is comfortable.—Mrs. R. B. Thomson and her daughter, Peggy, Taupai, left on Saturday,to reside in Gisborne.
