A forecast of greater prosperity roi Britain next year was made by Mr Chamberlain in his speech at Birmingham last night. "In spite of foreign complications," he said, "when I look round 1 am really astonished —I was almost going to'say frightened—at the extraordinary steadiness of the niovemenl of improvement. "Everywhere the purchasing powci of the people is steadily increasing Our exports are going up at what, to mo, is an astonishing rate. Employment gets higher and higher, and every month seems to make a new record.

"I do not know where you can find anything which indicates a setback."
