PAWNSHOPS CLOSE
CHUNGKING, China, Jan. 16. Declaring they cannot conduct business .at an interest rate of less than 42 per cent a year, all of the pawnshops in the city of Luchow have "gone on strike" and closed their doors. Heretofore borrowers have had to pay 3.5 per cent a month, but the city authorities .recently passed a law limiting interest on .pawnshop loans to 3' per cent" a "month. * " ! "
