AIR MAIL DELAYS
LETTERS FOR LONDON LONG- .WAIT JN SYDNEY Air mail from New Zealand is not included in the dispatch by the Empire air service due in London on March 16, as no connecting steamer has been available between the Dominion and Australia. A considerable quantity of air mail will be taken by) the Wanganella, which was scheduled to sail from Auckland for Sydney yesterday afternoon, but this will lie in Sydney until the following Tuesday, when there will be the next dispatch for Cootamundra. The last dispatch of air mail from New Zealand was by the Mariposa, which left Auckland for Sydney on February 21. The next air mail, after that to‘be carried by the Wanganella, will be taken by the Monowai, which is scheduled to leave Auckland for Sydney next Friday afternoon. Thus the' air mail of both vessels will reach London on March 22.
An Empire air mail which left London on February 9 will reach New Zealand from Sydney this week in three consignments. The northern portion of the mail arrived at Auckland by the Aornngi yesterday and the Wellington portion reached Wellington by the Monowai yesterday. The southern portion will reach Bluff by the Waikouaiti to-day.
The air mail will be 22 days in transit from London owing to it having been delayed over three days on route from London to Australia and then being further delayed at Sydney waiting to connect, with a vessel coming to New Zealand. The mail should have reached Sydney from London on Friday, 'February 21, but cabled advice from Australia stated that it was delayed. It was expected to arrive at Sydney last Monday, but it must have been further delayed because it did nol connect with the Wanganella.
