A well-known farmer. Mr. Charles Allierl liectham, of Tori, paid a visit to his parents at .Masterton on Wednesday and was horrified on Ins return on Sunday evening to find the homestead a mass of smoking ruins. Nobody was left in charge of the house, which was intact when last seen by a neighbor at 5 o'clock on Saturday evening. The homestead was situated well back in the hills, and it would be difficult for the Haines to he seen from the road. II is thought that the fire occurred during Saturdav night. The house was insured for £750.
