EXTENSION TO OPOTIKI r~ REMINDER OF PROMISE A meeting of the executive committee of the Opotiki Railway League was held on Friday, reports the Guardian. The chairman' of the league, Mr. J. H. Reid, county chairman, presided. The Mayor, Mr. G. S. Moody, was also present. The chairman referred to the change in Government, but considered that before anything can be done it will be necessary for the Government to declare its policy. The Railways Board had still the charge of the railways by Act of Parliament, and until the policy of the Government was declared nothing could be done. The Prime Minister in his election address promised that if the Labour Party was returned to power the line from Taneatua to Opotiki would be constructed. All that could be done at present was to remind the Prime Minister of his promise. It was therefore unanimously resolved that a letter should be sent to the Prime Minister recalling) his promise made when speaking at Opotiki, that if the Labour Party were returned to power this line would be completed. It was also decided to send a letter to Mr. G. Hultquist, M.P., asking him to do what he could in the matter.
