SWIMMING IN GISBORNE

TO-NIGHT'S SPORTS HERETAUNGA CLUE'S VISIT FERGUSON CUP CONTEST To-night representatives of the Gisborne Surf and Swimming Club will meet a team from the lleretauuga elub, Hastings, in the annual contest for the Ferguson Cup. The events will take place at the Macrae Hath, and a largo gathering is expected lo witness the sports. The lleretauuga team, which lias already arrived, includes some of the. outstanding swimmers of Hawke's Hay. W. Farrell, one of the visitors, is an ex-Auckland title holder anil' a present Hawke's Bay record and title holder. Interest will be taken in local swimming circles as to how the promising young Gisborno swimmer, S. Dodgshun, will compare in such company, and the experience will beiielit him. Amongst the divers there will he C. Thurlow and I!. Wright, who have represented Hawke's Bay at the. national championships, while the Gisborne boy, 11. Wall, won the Hawke's Hay intermediate title last year and has since beaten Wright.

The inter-club teams race and (he water polo match should provide all the excitement required by the spectators, and a record attendance is expected. The 50yds. scratch race between the two clubs should be oik 1 of Hie h'nest races seen in Gisborne for many vears. as it will include three of the crack swimmers from eacti club. This race is the second event on the programme, and spectators and officials, therefore, should be early, as the carnival will commence sharp on time. Practically all the swimmers competing in the inter-club events at this carnival will be taking part at the Hawke's Bay provincial championship!' at Hastings early next week, and will be out to give of their best as the selector will bo present.
