Mr. Frank J. Marshall, of New York, titleholder .since 1900, when he defeated Mr. J. W. Showaltcr in a match, has stepped aside to enable the many younger aspirants to show what they can do. Mr. Marshall retired yesterday as undefeated ehnmpiom "There arc many of our younger players eminently capable of holding the title," Mr. Marshall said in announcing; his retirement.
