MISSING VESSEL PARINGA
NO NEWS AT PORT SHARP WATCH' REQUESTED MELBOURNE, Dec. 29. To-day there was still no news of the steamer Paringa, which left Melbourne on Monday for Japan with the tanker Vincas in tow, but parted company with the Vincas when the tow rope broke on Wednesday. The crew of the Paringa consists of 31. The master and officers are British and the- remainder 26 Chinese. A fishing cutter yesterday reached the Vincas and found four Chinese aboard. One, of them related how, during the height of the storm and high seas, the Paringa’s towline parted company with the Vincas, which is now held by her anchor. The four Chinese refused to leave the Vincas, declaring that the Paringa is sure to return. All vessels have been asked to keep a sharp watch for the Paringa, which may be standing out to sea.
