“HOODOO SHIP”

CAPETOWN, Dee. 14. The four-masted ship St. Germain, known as the “hoodoo ship of the Indian Ocean,” has put in here with engine trouble. She was built in 1924, and named the Epoca. She has experienced every possible misadventure, including collision and mutiny. She was towed from Reunion Island. The crew refused to work in Durban, where she was reconditioned and loaded with manganese ore for Rotterdam. Three years ago she was attached at Capetown for damaging a ship at Dakar.
