DRINKING OF TEA
STEPS TO INCREASE USE POSITION IN NEW ZEALAND In the course of an investigation into tha possibility of expanding the tea industry of India and Ceylon, Mr Gorvas Huxley, of London, paid a short visit to Auckland on his way to Australia.Mr Huxley, who was a passenger oil the Mariposa, visited New Zealand i» 1927 with Mr L. S. Aniery, then Secretary of Slate for the Dominions and chairman of the Empire Marketing Hoard. Mr Huxley .was formerly publicity officer of the Marketing Board. Three years ago his services were loaned to the Governments of Ceylon . and India to carry out an investigation of the tea industry. His headquarters are m I.ondon. , , , Mr Huxley said he had been occupied lately in an endeavor to persuade the people of Canada and the United States to drink more tea, and was now on hi s way to Australia to do the same At the moment, he said, New Zealanders were drinking a lot of tea and ie did. not have to worry about the Dominion. It was generally thought, he continued, that New Zealand per head or population consumed more tea" than any other country in the world. That was not so. England headed the list, with Ne Zealand occupying second place.
