BRITISH BY-ELECTION

NOMINATIONS LODGED RAMSAY MACDONALD (Reed, Dec. 28, 3 p.m.) ■ LONDON. Dec. 27. The Association of Unionist Graduates of the Scottish Universities, has agreed to nominate Mr. Ramsay MacDonald to tin vacancy in the House of Commons, due to the'death of Mr. A. N. Skelton. Mr. MacDonald has accepted the invitation to stand for the Scottish Universities seat. Other candidates are Professor Gibb. the Scottish Nationalist, who was defeated in the general election, and Mr. J. Ij. Thomson, a Laborite. The result is expected in mid-February. It is understood that Mr. Malcolm MacDonald is prepared to stand for the Ross-Cromarty seat if invited, but the -coltish Liberal Federation is threatening to produce an Independent if the local Liberals choose Mr. MacDonald.
