CUSTOMS REVENUE

AUCKLAND RETURNS Although the Customs revenue collected at, Auckland during the past month amounted, to only £232,793, as compared with £343.361 in the same month of last year, the return for the 11 months of this year is £2,391,915, which is well in advance of the. figure for the same period of last year, £2,368,513. With motor spirit and tyre duties added the revenue for the past 11 months amounts to £2,894,674, as compared with £2.872,607 in the same period last year. Tho return from motor spirit duty last month showed an increase over that ol the same month last year, the figures being £48,723, as against £47,270, but tho tyro duty showed a. decrease, only £1952' being "collected from this source last month, as compared with £2778 m November, 1934. The excise on beer, which returned £10,241 in November of last year, totalled £14,214 during tho past month. Tho sales tax also showed increased figures, £70,240 last month, as against. £63,451 in November of last veav.

DUNEDIN COLLECTIONS Customs returns at Dunedin for November, together with the comparative figures for November, 1934, in parentheses are, as follows : Customs duty, £56,635 (£61.820); beer duty, £23,940 (£237658)- sales fax. £23.009 (£20,192) ; petrol tax (at 6d a gallon), £11,670 (£15,122); tyre lax, £IO6B (£462); gold duty, £1634 (£1138). The following figures give a comparison between tlioso for the first eight months of the current financial year and those for tho same period of 1934: —Customs duty, £431.766 (£448,028); beer duty, £150,392 (£155,359) ; sales tax, ei65.071 (C 159.590); petrol tax. £90,876 (£108.611); tyre tax, £5956 (£5593); gold duty. £16.070 (£13.082).

A iofal of £42.919 was collected by the Customs Department at Napier during November, compared with £44,523 during November of last year, when, however, the figure recorded was easily a record for the district.
