RADIO TRANSMITTERS
GISBORNE CLUB YEAR'S FINAL MEETING On Monday evening the Freesia Lounge was the scene of a pleasing social evening when the Gisborne branch of the New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters held its final club meeting of the year. There was a good attendance of transmitting enthusiasts and listener-mem-bers. A visiting transmitter, Mr. E. Fitton, ZLIHF, was welcomed.. Two other visitors, Messrs. Littler and Pritchard, assisted materially towards the success of 'the evening with banjo items and conducting community singing.
In the course of the evening the chairman, Mr. J. B. Sutton, took the opportunity 'of bidding farewell to Mr. J. Peacock, ZL2NI, who is leaving Gisborne for Palmerston North on promotion. Mr. Peacock suitably responded.
A short toast list was honored, of which the concluding item was the toast of "Jimmy," a member who, debarred from attendance by being a complete invalid, is held in" the highest esteem by his club members. Mr. Jimmy ParsonvS is well known to listeners and transmitters alike as the owner-operator of ZL2JO, a 'phone station of the highest repute. Station ZL2JO is an outstanding example of the power for good that amateur radio can be, enabling an invalid to enjoy the benefits of widespread friendships that otherwise could not be formed.
