FLOWER SHOW A COMPLETE SUCCESS Preceded by weeks of careful preparation and forethought, the third annual flower display held under lhe auspices, of the- Manutuke Women's Institute last Saturday was a complete success, reflecting credit upon the show committee, which comprised Mesdames W. A. McCliskie, president, C. ,L Hamilton, J. Kane, W. Jones, .1. Daulton, R. Piercey. Miss M. Daulton, and tho joint secretaries, Mrs. Pullinger and Miss M. Atkins.

Considering the recent unseasonable weather, the quality and number of lhe entries in all the floral sections were most gratifying, and the judges were loud in their praises of the. work shown. In the rose section the. champion bloom, a, cream colored hybrid tea rose, ".Mrs. Wilmott," was an outstanding bloom, as also was the premier pernetiana, "Complesse de Castilleja," a gorgeous colored orange flamed vermillion bloom that was true to both type and color. In the section for cut Bowers, there were many meritorious exhibits, the best being the, large collections of blooms shown in the class for Women's institutes. The collections of vegetables were also good. In the children's section, Max Barber's model aeroplane was a wonderful piece of work tor a lad of 13 years and fas awarded a special prize. The following were the judges:— Roses, Mr. Jv. Calcott; cut flowers, Mr. (j. Maunder; decorative, Mesdames 11. Willock and R. Dobson; cookery, Miss

Cook; vegetables and children's work, Air. Maunder.

The duties of stewards were delegated to the following:—Hoses and sweet peas, Mrs. W. Jones; miscellaneous, Mesdames R. Piercey, and J. Daulton; decorative, Mrs. C. J. Hamilton; cookery, Mrs. \V. Calcott; vegetables and children's sections, Mrs. R. Russell.

Trophies were donated by the following:—Messrs, D. S. Thompson, Alex. Thomson, T. S. Shields, C. Berridge and Mrs. J. Hebenton. During tho afternoon, brisk business was done at tho various stalls, the holders of which were as follows :■— Fish pond, Mrs. R, Russell and Miss R. Calcott; sweets, Mrs. Leggett and Mrs. A. Whiting; produce, Airs. F. Kirk. Mrs. G. VV. Coppiu also gave valuable assistance to the committee.

The champion blooms were Mrs. R. R. Black's hybrid tea rose and -Mrs. J. llebenton's pernetiana. Section trophies were awarded as follows:—Roses : Manutuke School. Bweet peas: Mrs. C. Robcke.
