Australian Opera Season
THE stage is being set for Sydney's biggest broadcast opera season, during which performances will be of works new to Australia. Members of the cast have already arrived in Sydney, and rehearsals, under' M. de Abravanel, will start next week. The season will be of 13 weeks. The cast is imposing, including Florence Austral, Ben Williams, Lioncllo Cecil, Sydney de Vries, Frederick Collier, Gladys Lorimer, Evelyn Hall, Thea Philips, and Nino Marotta. The opening performance will bo given over the national network from Sydney on November 5, and for the season on every Tuesday and Thursday night. "Works new to Australia will include "Boris Godounov," which will probably be broadcast in two sections, owing to its length; Beethoven's "Fidciio," Strauss' "Rosenkavalior," and Humperdinclc's "Hansel* and Gretel." Preliminary arrangements such as obtaining scores from overseas and negotiating with holders of copyrights, have been completed.
